Flow Structure in an Artificial Seagrass Meadow in Combined Wave-Current Conditions

چکیده
Experiments were conducted in a laboratory flume using an artificial seagrass meadow, modeled after Zostera marina , to examine the impact of waves on vertical structure time-averaged current, Reynolds stress, and turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) under combined wave-current conditions. With addition smaller waves, defined by ratio wave velocity current U w /U c < 2.5, peaked above which was similar pure When > presence caused peak near top meadow. For 1 reduced magnitude stress. all conditions considered, wake production turbulence dominated shear However, less efficient than generating TKE meadow because movement blades forced oscillatory fluid motion relative between wave. A modified hybrid model for flexible canopy proposed account contributions currents. Wake when currents 1. Effect of a seagrass (Posidonia oceanica) meadow on wave propagation
We demonstrate the utility of using the equivalent bottom roughness for calculating the friction factor and the drag coefficient of a seagrass meadow for conditions in which the meadow height is small compared to the water depth. Wave attenuation induced by the seagrass Posidonia oceanica is evaluated using field data from bottom-mounted acoustic doppler veloci meters (ADVs). Using the data fro...
متن کاملthe effects of changing roughness on the flow structure in the bends
flow in natural river bends is a complex and turbulent phenomenon which affects the scour and sedimentations and causes an irregular bed topography on the bed. for the reason, the flow hydralics and the parameters which affect the flow to be studied and understand. in this study the effect of bed and wall roughness using the software fluent discussed in a sharp 90-degree flume bend with 40.3cm ...
Contribution of seagrass plants to CO2 capture in a tropical seagrass meadow under experimental disturbance
Coastal vegetative habitats are known to be highly productive environments with a high ability to capture and store carbon. During disturbance this important function could be compromised as plant photosynthetic capacity, biomass, and/or growth are reduced. To evaluate effects of disturbance on CO2 capture in plants we performed a five-month manipulative experiment in a tropical seagrass (Thala...
متن کاملField observations of wave-induced streaming through a submerged seagrass (Posidonia oceanica) meadow
[1] This paper reports the findings of a 2week field campaign designed to study wave-induced flows within a meadow of Posidonia oceanica at water depth 9m. Previous laboratory experiments suggest that waves induce a mean mass drift in the direction of wave propagation (“streaming”) through submerged canopies of vegetation. This paper provides the first field measurements of this wave-induced st...
متن کاملthe role of thematic structure in comprehending spoken language
in fact this study is concerned with the relationship between the variation in thematice structure and the comprehension of spoken language. so the study focused on the following questions: 1. is there any relationship between thematic structure and the comprehension of spoken language? 2. which of the themes would have greated thematic force and be easier for the subjects to comprehend? accord...
